26th November 2024, Colombo: Vision Care, Sri Lanka’s largest provider of vision, hearing, and eyewear solutions, recently played a pivotal role in the National Diabetic Walk and Health Camp, organized by the Sri Lanka College of Endocrinologists, the Sri Lanka Diabetes Federation, and the Colombo Municipal Council to commemorate World Diabetes Day 2024. With a strong presence of staff members and Vision Care Academy students, the company emphasized the importance of regular eye check-ups as part of diabetes management and the prevention of eyesight issues.

This year’s global theme, “Breaking Barriers, Bridging Gaps”, underscored the need for awareness and action in addressing diabetes-related complications. Vision Care’s participation highlighted the vital connection between diabetes and eye health, particularly the risks posed by diabetic retinopathy—a leading cause of vision loss in adults—as well as cataracts, glaucoma, and dry eyes.

With diabetes becoming a growing global concern, Vision Care’s involvement in the Diabetic Walk showcased its ongoing efforts to promote public health awareness. The Vision Care Mobile Unit – ‘Eyes on Wheels’ was a standout feature at the event, offering free eye screenings to the public. Attendees gained valuable insights into their eye health through these screenings, which are instrumental in detecting early signs of diabetes-related vision problems. This initiative reinforced the link between vision health and diabetes management, emphasizing the importance of proactive care.

In addition to the mobile unit, Vision Care set up an informational stall to engage the community and provide free eye check-ups. The stall served as an educational hub, helping participants understand the impact of diabetes on vision. Many attendees benefited from this initiative, learning about the critical role eye health plays in managing diabetes effectively.

Vision Care underscores its commitment to diabetic eye care through its Diabetic Retinopathy Assessment, a comprehensive service available at select branches, designed to help patients detect and address vision issues related to diabetes at an early stage. This comprehensive examination includes a refraction test, eye pressure test, fundus photography, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), and a visual field test. Conducted by Vision Care’s highly trained optometry professionals using state-of-the-art equipment at select branches, these assessments are crucial for early detection of eye conditions. Early diagnosis enables patients to take necessary precautions and treatments, safeguarding their vision.

With over 30 years of service excellence, Vision Care remains dedicated to enhancing the lives of its customers by providing high-quality eye and hearing care solutions. The company has been a pioneer in advancing Sri Lanka’s eye care industry, offering services such as eye testing, spectacles, sunglasses, contact lenses, and hearing aids from world-renowned brands, along with ocular pharmaceuticals.
