14th October 2022, Colombo: Vision Care, Sri Lanka’s largest vision and eye wear solutions provider, celebrated World Children’s Day by partnering with popular radio station Neth FM to organise a special children’s event at the Kaluthara Vidyalaya named “Wishma Lanthaya”.
The event attracted a large number of children and their parents from the surrounding areas as they enjoyed a day of fun, laughter, exciting activities and special gifts from Vision Care. It drew a lot of praise from the participants especially as it came at a time when the children of Sri Lanka are going through a prolonged difficult period owing to the disruption of studies and extracurricular activities since early 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent economic crisis which is ongoing even today.
During the event, Vision Care team members emphasized the importance of protecting children’s eyes and how parents can ensure that they do so in a proper manner in today’s technology-driven world where online learning and screen time among children has increased significantly. For the past two and a half years there has been a significant increase in online learning among Sri Lankan children resulting in them using computers, tablets, smartphones and TVs for several hours daily. However, the increased screen time has invariably led to a condition known as Digital Eye Strain or Computer Vision Syndrome in some children. It is a long-term vision-related condition triggered by excessive digital screen viewing and has several symptoms such as the changing of one’s vision from time to time, eye and body fatigue, headache, dry eyes, and pain in the neck and shoulders.
To ensure your child’s eye and general health it is important to take them for regular eye examinations. Early detection and treatment are vital first steps that can be taken before their education and other activities are negatively affected. As a responsible parent, you can easily get your child’s eyes tested by visiting any Vision Care branch where eye tests are carried out by experienced eyecare professionals using state-of-the-art equipment. You can rest assured that you have taken the best course of action to safeguard your children’s eyes.
