Uva Province All-Island Open Badminton Tournament Shenuk, Nethmi crowned open singles champions

Shenuk Samararatne emerged as the men’s singles champion at the Uva Province All-Island Open Badminton Tournament, organized by the Uva Province Badminton Association under the auspices of the Sri Lanka Badminton.

 



 

The tournament’s fourth edition, recently conducted at St. Thomas College Indoor Badminton Courts in Bandarawela, featured Shenuk securing the title by defeating Malitha Hasaranga Suriyarachchi with scores of 21-17 and 21-13.

Nethmi Amaya Ratnayake demonstrated her prowess by clinching the Open Women’s Singles title when she triumphed in the final against Tarushi Navodya with scores of 21-9 and 21-7.

In the open men’s doubles category, Dinura Rashmika Priyashantha and Siath Dulneth Senaratne secured victory by defeating Hansa De Silva and Yohan Bandara Weerasuriya with scores of 21-14 and 21-14. Meanwhile, Isuri Attanayake and Situmi Minara de Silva claimed the open women’s doubles title by defeating Chamya Nirmani Nandasiri and Yasmitha Sithumini 21-13, 21-12.

The open mixed doubles title was won by Thenuka Sathsara de Silva and Samidi Onel, who triumphed over Hansa de Silva and Chamya Nirmani Nandasiri with scores of 21-12 and 21-10.

In addition to the open singles title, Shenuk also secured the Under-19 Boys title, while Minusha Abhimani Padma Bandara won the Under-19 Girls Championship.

The tournament encompassed four categories: Open, Senior, Junior, and Senior, with Junior categories spanning Under-11, 13, 15, 17, and 19 boys and girls singles and doubles. The Senior category included men’s and women’s singles and doubles for various age groups, ranging from over 30 to over 70.

The Uva Province All-Island Open Badminton Championship was made poss ible through the generous sponsorship of Mcfoil, Mobil, 3M, GAC, and Li-Ning.
