Range of scholarships available for the University of Technology Sydney

To celebrate the launch of Colombo’s newest international higher education college, senior executives of the ‘UTS Insearch Sri Lanka’ college have announced plans to offer 10 merit-based scholarships for its students.

The official launch of the college will be held on 4 July 2019 in Colombo.

The new institute will offer 10 scholarships for the top students who commence their studies with its inaugural academic session this year. The scholarships, worth a total of 8 million Sri Lankan Rupees, will cover the full tuition for a two or three semester diploma, or the UTS Foundation Studies program at UTS Insearch Sri Lanka.

In addition, Australia’s number one young university, the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), will offer scholarships to students who complete their diploma program with UTS Insearch Sri Lanka, and continue to pursue their Bachelor’s degree at UTS in Sydney. These include two 25 per cent fee-waiver scholarships for the most academically outstanding students studying at UTS each semester. All students from UTS Insearch Sri Lanka will also be eligible for other scholarships for ongoing support with future UTS course fees.

The pathway college for the University of Technology Sydney will open in October this year, offering courses to prepare students for university study in Australia.

“We are investing more than US$2 million in the establishment of our new college in Colombo, which demonstrates our commitment to Sri Lanka and our confidence in the economy and education sector,” said the Chair of UTS Insearch Sri Lanka, Professor John Wood.

“I have been engaging with the Sri Lankan education sector for nearly two decades, and the future is bright for this college,” said Professor Wood. “In particular I am looking forward to seeing the success of our students – who will be starting their international education preparation and experience with us.”

Describing the high-quality education being offered to the students at UTS Insearch Sri Lanka, the Managing Director of UTS Insearch, Mr Alex Murphy said, “We will be teaching several of our courses in Colombo which are equivalent to undertaking the first-year of university study. We’re pleased to offer our popular Diploma of Business, Diploma of Engineering and Diploma of IT, which will really appeal to students preparing for university internationally”.

“We will also offer our UTS Foundation Studies Program (a Year 12 equivalent program) which prepares for entry to all UTS undergraduate courses. Students wanting to refine their English skills for university can also benefit from our Academic English course – it is specially designed for students wanting to enhance their English reading, writing, listening and speaking skills for academic study,” said Mr Murphy.

UTS Insearch Sri Lanka’s programs will support students to develop the academic skills and knowledge for success at university. Upon successful completion of the applicable course, students meet the requirements for entry into the first or second year of their degrees at the University of Technology Sydney, depending on the courses chosen.

Modern teaching methods to prepare for the future of work

The University of Technology Sydney uses an award-winning learning.futures approach – which is designed around the way students learn and how teachers support their learning.

“UTS connects a future-focused curriculum with informed technology to place students at the centre of the learning experience. The aim is to produce graduates who are confident, have strong academic knowledge and person skills, and are well equipped for the future of work, anywhere in the world,” said Mr Murphy.
