In a groundbreaking step towards increasing accessibility to world-class education, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville has partnered with Guidance Overseas Education Centre in Piliyandala, Sri Lanka, to launch a dual enrollment collaboration. This initiative allows Sri Lankan students to complete one year of university credit locally, providing a more affordable and convenient path to an internationally respected U.S. degree.

Award-winning Sri Lankan American Professor Kirthi Premadasa played a key role in facilitating this historic agreement. Professor Premadasa commented, “US universities consistently rank among the top 20 universities in the world, and this collaboration is bound to help Sri Lankan students achieve a world-class education within their budget.” His efforts were instrumental in bridging the two institutions, paving the way for this groundbreaking partnership.

Under the new arrangement, students can begin their studies in Sri Lanka, significantly reducing the financial burden of studying abroad. The program’s cost-effective structure is expected to deliver substantial savings on both tuition fees and living expenses. This innovative approach reflects a shared commitment to providing high-quality education without borders.

The University of Wisconsin-Platteville is widely recognized as one of the premier public universities in the United States. Consistently ranked among the top 50 engineering universities in the nation, it recently earned the distinction of being named Wisconsin’s top university for return on investment. These accolades make it an attractive choice for students seeking rigorous academic programs that translate into strong career opportunities.

Guidance Overseas Education Centre, a trusted educational institution in the Piliyandala area for over three decades, has built a solid reputation as a leading provider of elementary and secondary education. With a history of supporting students in their academic journey, Guidance is now extending its reach by offering pathways to globally recognized higher education opportunities.

This dual enrollment program opens new doors for Sri Lankan students, enabling them to access the quality and prestige of an American university degree without the immediate need to relocate. By completing their first year in a familiar environment, students can transition more smoothly into the U.S. education system, gaining confidence and reducing the overall cost of earning a degree.

As both institutions celebrate this milestone, the collaboration stands as a testament to their dedication to innovation and inclusivity in education. With the launch of this program, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and Guidance Overseas Education Centre are not only bridging continents but also bridging the gap between aspiration and affordability, making top-tier higher education more attainable than ever for Sri Lankan students.
