Reinforcing Unilever’s core business philosophy of ‘Doing Well by Doing Good’, Unilever Sri Lanka launched the third phase of the ‘No More Silly Silly’ campaign conducted in collaboration with Richard Pieris Distributors. The campaign, first launched in July 2017 has since made incredible strides in driving sustainable change across the nation, by simply encouraging shoppers to switch to using Unilever and Arpico co-branded blue eco bags at all Arpico Supercenter outlets island wide.

Aligned towards a collective vision of minimizing our nation’s environmental impact, the first phase of the partnership was instrumental in preventing 200,000 polythene bags from entering the environment. Today, the campaign sets a new objective – to eliminate 1 Million ‘silly silly’ bags from circulation among consumers. Which is a 187-ton reduction of carbon emission to the environment.

In order to inculcate and reward a change in habitual behavior among shoppers and thereby integrate environmental awareness across all consumer segments, a shopper campaign has been initiated from the month of August to the 15th of October by Unilever Sri Lanka at Arpico Supercentres across the island.

“Inspired by the success of the inaugural award-winning campaign, our dynamic teams are poised to commence the next chapter in our shared journey, helping more Sri Lankan shoppers to embrace the concept of ‘going green’ by cutting down on their usage of polythene shopping bags,” said a member of the management team at Richard Pieris Distributors Ltd.

“Aligned with our fundamentals of ‘selling with a purpose’, we seek to transform lifestyles, enabling and encouraging sustainable living across all the markets we are present in around the world”, said Aruna Mawilmada, Customer Development Director, Unilever Sri Lanka. “Considering the challenging climate, as our nation and the world continues to grapple with waste management and minimizing our overall impact, we are proud to play a small, yet significant role in advocating a spirit of change among the people.”
