Top economist Dr. Dushni Weerakoon to deliver CA Sri Lanka’s 23rd Annual Tax Oration

Top economist and Executive Director of the Institute of Policy Studies of Sri Lanka (IPS), Dr. Dushni Weerakoon will deliver the 23rd Annual Oration on Taxation organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) on 02nd December 2019 at the CA Sri Lanka Auditorium.

Dr. Weerakoon will deliver the oration on the topic ‘Tax Policy, Fiscal Consolidation and Growth Challenges in Sri Lanka.’

At IPS, Dr. Weerakoon also heads its macroeconomic policy research. She has extensive experience in public policy engagement and currently serves as an Appointed Member of the Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

Dr. Weerakoon has worked as a consultant to international organizations such as the World Bank, ADB, UN-ESCAP, UNDP and ILO, and served as a resource person on the Asia-Pacific Regional Trade Policy Course conducted by the World Trade Organization (WTO) and University of Hong Kong (2003-06).

Dr. Weerakoon holds a BSc in Economics with First Class Honors from the Queen’s University of Belfast, U.K., and an MA and PhD in Economics from the University of Manchester, U.K.

The Annual Tax Oration of CA Sri Lanka is a much-awaited event in the institute’s calendar and attracts a large number of professionals, including high-level tax officials from the public sector, and members of CA Sri Lanka. Mr. Esmond Satarasinghe, a founding member of CA Sri Lanka will sponsor the medallion which will be presented to the orator.
