The TRR Rajan Legacy: Empowering Lives with 240th prosthetic limb by Sun Match

Sun Match Company hailing from the hill capital Kandy that introduced to the Sri Lankan household the first wax coated safety matches with the brand ‘Soorya’ honored the Twenty second death anniversary of its Founder, the Late Mr. T.R.R. Rajan by proving for the 240th prostrate limb to be donated making it a unique year for the company.

Sun Match Company is the market leader in Sri Lanka in the match boxes category and has diversified into many products such as Soorya incense sticks, Soorya candles and Soorya Sambrani and other FMCG products.

 



 
The program, named as Navatha Avidimu, is focused on providing prosthetic limbs to underprivileged amputees, addressing a critical need while also giving individuals a new lease on life. This initiative embodies the ethos of its founder, TRR Rajan, who believed in going beyond mere charity, emphasizing that we must help individuals transcend mobility and truly empower them.

As such, the program offers education and supports in the rehabilitation towards reaching their full potential in life and society. The recent event was held in the presence of the Chairman Deshamanya Suri Rajan, the wife of late TRR Rajan Jeewa and daughters Gowri, Ahalya Ashwini, Management and staff of Sun Match.

The brand ambassador for Soorya Ms.Yashodha Wimaladharama one of the most popular and respected silver screen stars said giving a person the ability to walk is the greatest gift that one can give mankind today,

Sun Match Director and CMO , Ms. Gowri Rajan, said, “The ‘Navatha Avidimu’ initiative is a testament to Sun Match Company’s enduring commitment to all communities. In commemorating the 22nd death anniversary of our visionary Founder, Mr. T.R.R Rajan. We honor not only his legacy but also provide amputees with prosthetics that symbolise hope, resilience, and the unwavering spirit of progress. Through ‘Navatha Avidimu,’ we also continue to light the way, creating paths of empowerment and transformation for those who inspire us with their strength.”

Late Mr. T.R.R. Rajan was instrumental in the revitalization of the Centre for Handicapped, Kundasale which is today a charity approved by the government of Sri Lanka. The center is dedicated to identifying patients and manufacturing the limbs which is a signature project in the hill capital – Kandy. During his tenure as Centre President, Late Mr. T.R.R. Rajan partnered reputed agencies such as USAID and NORAD, alongside the Government of Sri Lanka to support in the manufacturing and distributing prosthetic limbs to all, regardless of ethnic background or gender. We did this even during of covid and economic crisis which is our respect to the founder said Suri Rajan, the Chairman of Sun Match and brother of late T R R Rajan
