The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Sri Lanka (MMCA Sri Lanka) is thrilled to announce its latest series of public programmes for December 2023. These free and engaging events have been carefully curated to offer a range of experiences for art enthusiasts and the general public, alongside the museum’s latest exhibition titled ’88 Acres: The Watapuluwa Housing Scheme by Minnette De Silva’.

The MMCA Sri Lanka invites you to experience this new show through a  Curator’s Tour with Sharmini Pereira, Chief Curator at the MMCA Sri Lanka on 3 December Sunday, from 11 am to 12 noon, or with Ritchell Marcelline, Assistant Curator at the MMCA Sri Lanka on 17 December (Sunday), from 11 am to 12 noon. Delve in the depths of ’88 Acres’ and gain a deeper understanding of the Watapuluwa Housing Scheme by Minnette De Silva as you explore the exhibition through the eyes of a curator. These guided tours promise to be an enlightening and enriching experience for all art and architecture enthusiasts.

You are also invited to a unique artist-led tour on 9 December (Saturday) from 3 pm to 5 pm at the museum premises, with Irushi Tennekoon, Sumedha Kelegama, and Sumudu Athukorala. A specially commissioned film titled ‘is this an architectural documentary?’ (2023) by these acclaimed artists is now on display in ‘88 Acres: The Watapuluwa Housing Scheme by Minnette De Silva’. Join this Artists’ Tour to gain insight into the exhibition from the filmmakers, and immerse yourself in their thought-provoking narrative.

Join the MMCA Sri Lanka in welcoming the festive season on 15 December (Friday) from 2 pm to 4 pm, as the Choir of S. Thomas’ Preparatory School sings Christmas Carols, directed by the talented Harin Amirthanathan. Set against the backdrop of ’88 Acres: The Watapuluwa Housing Scheme by Minnette De Silva,’ the choir adds a harmonious touch to the season, creating a delightful atmosphere for visitors of all ages.
