The Capital Market Masters Quiz Competition series was officially launched with its inaugural competition recently in Batticaloa. Organized by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC) and the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Presidential Secretariat, this inter-school quiz aims to enhance financial literacy among students nationwide. Following the 2023 introduction of Capital Market Clubs in 100 schools, the competition seeks to engage teams from these clubs in promoting financial education.
The competition is structured in two stages: the provincial level and the national level. During the provincial level, the competition is held cluster-wise. Cluster 01 includes the Eastern Province and Uva Province, Cluster 02 covers the North Central Province, North Province, and Northwestern Province, Cluster 03 consists of the Central Province, and Cluster 04 comprises the Western Province, Southern Province, and Sabaragamuwa Province. The provincial winners from each cluster will advance to compete at the national level.
The Batticaloa competition culminated with BT / BC / Meera Balika Maha Vidyalaya (NS) emerging as the overall winner of the Eastern province while B / Vishaka Balika Madya Maha Vidyalaya – Bandarawela was declared the overall winner of the Uva province. The students were tested on their knowledge of current affairs, general knowledge, Sri Lankan economy and business, IT and innovation, capital markets as well as sports and entertainment.
The Capital Market Masters Quiz was supported by Bartleet Religare Securities (Pvt) Ltd and First Capital Holdings PLC as Platinum Sponsors of the event. Further, Maliban Milk (Pvt) Ltd joined as the official nutrition partner, while Luminex PLC was the official stationery partner.
