The 2024 NCHS-Swinburne Graduation Marks 10 Years of Transformative Partnership

Nawaloka College of Higher Studies (NCHS) and Swinburne University of Technology proudly celebrated their decade-long partnership in Sri Lanka, a collaboration that has provided countless Sri Lankan students with pathways to global education and career opportunities. Held at the BMICH on the 23rd of October 2024, this milestone graduation ceremony saw over 400 students awarded qualifications, marking both a pivotal personal achievement and a testament to the lasting impact of the NCHS-Swinburne alliance.
 



 
The event opened with a recognition of NCHS’s journey in making quality, internationally recognized education accessible to students throughout Sri Lanka. With campuses in Colombo and Kandy, NCHS has built a reputation for providing a learning environment that meets the highest global standards while supporting the aspirations of students locally.

A Landmark Partnership in Education

Reflecting on the past ten years, Dr. Jayantha Dharmadasa, Chairman of NCHS, highlighted the significance of the partnership, “This year is particularly special as we celebrate our decade-long partnership with Swinburne University of Technology, Australia, which has provided countless students with pathways to global opportunities. This collaboration, along with our other international partnerships, represents our commitment to providing Sri Lankan students with an education that transcends borders.”

Professor Pascale G. Quester, Vice-Chancellor and President of Swinburne University of Technology, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the rigorous and industry-aligned curriculum designed to equip graduates with a future-proof qualification, “The Swinburne qualification you hold is much more than a piece of paper. Swinburne has worked closely with industry and future employers to ensure it is relevant and future-proof. Whether you are about to enter the world of work or go on to undertake further study, your graduation today marks the closure of one chapter and the start of an exciting new one.”

Encouraging Graduates to Contribute to Sri Lanka’s Growth

As the High Commissioner of Australia to Sri Lanka, His Excellency Paul Stephens encouraged graduates to consider how their newfound skills could contribute to the growth and development of their homeland, “At this time, Sri Lanka needs people with your qualifications and skills. I encourage you to consider what you can contribute to your country, which offers so much potential and stands at a critical juncture in its future. Please also take the time to reflect on your achievements and enjoy the special moments of today’s celebration.”

The graduation ceremony was graced by esteemed officers from both Nawaloka College of Higher Studies (NCHS) and Swinburne University of Technology, signifying the strong academic partnership between Sri Lanka and Australia. In attendance were Professor Pascale G. Quester, Vice-Chancellor and President of Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia, and His Excellency Paul Stephens, the High Commissioner of Australia to Sri Lanka. Representing Sri Lankan academia was Professor Dushan Jayawickrama, Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, along with Dr. Alan Robertson, Dean of Studies at NCHS. Key leadership from NCHS included Dr. Jayantha Dharmadasa, Chairman, Mr. Victor Ramanan, Deputy Chairman and CEO, and Mr. Umesh Ramanan and Professor Lal Chandrasena, both Directors at NCHS. Ms. Vali Ratnavali, Associate Director of Transnational Education Partner Relations at Swinburne, was also present, reinforcing the cross-continental collaboration.

The event was masterfully guided by Mr. Faizal Bongso, who served as the Master of Ceremonies, bringing a celebratory spirit to this milestone occasion.
