The CFA Society Sri Lanka has announced that its signature event, the annual CFA Capital Market Awards, now in its landmark 10th year, is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, 21 June 2023, at Cinnamon Grand, Colombo.
This year’s event will be held under the theme of ‘Invest smart, build resilience, thrive in Sri Lanka’. Amidst a number of setbacks since 2019, Sri Lanka is now at a new juncture with the IMF and a debt restructuring program set to change the pace of macro-economic conditions. Amidst these changes, the theme is intended to highlight the need for Sri Lanka to look towards prudent investment opportunities, whilst setting the foundation for a more resilient business environment.
First launched back in 2012, with a one-year hiatus in 2020 owing to the pandemic, the coveted Capital Market Awards recognise and reward excellence in the local capital markets. The event also aligns with the Society’s overarching mission, which is ‘to lead the finance and investment profession in Sri Lanka by introducing and promoting global best practices in ethics, education, and professional excellence for the ultimate benefit of society’.
Highlighting the impact of the awards, CFA Society Sri Lanka President Aruna Perera notes: “The Capital Market Awards has been the apex event of the CFA Society calendar since its launch in 2012, and I am pleased to see the event taking place for the 10th year. This is a testament to the impact the awards have had on recognizing those who further capital market standards. Despite the unprecedented market conditions in 2022, I feel encouraged to have seen market participants maintaining consistency in research, responding to clients in a timely and effective manner, and maintaining transparency with investors.”
“CFA Society Sri Lanka remains committed to furthering the standards of Sri Lankan capital markets, in particular the country’s investment research capabilities. I thank all applicants this year and also our organizing committee for tirelessly working towards holding the event”, he adds.
Reflecting on the significance of this year’s event, CFA Society Sri Lanka CEO Aruna Alwis states: “The year 2023 would witness yet another major milestone in CFA Society Sri Lanka’s Capital Market Awards, as it celebrates the 10th year of the competition.”
He goes on to note: “Today, the Capital Market Awards is viewed as the flagship event of CFA Society Sri Lanka, bringing together regulators, stockbrokers, analysts, CFA charterholders, and senior management of listed companies. The event has undoubtedly aided in improving the standards of investment research and industry excellence in Sri Lanka since its inception a decade ago, and become one of the most anticipated events in the local capital markets industry. I look forward to this flagship event and wish all the applicants the very best!”
Project Chairperson of the CFA Society Sri Lanka Capital Market Awards Nadika Ranasinghe comments: “CFA Sri Lanka Society is proud to be able to celebrate market participants who have strived to achieve and maintain excellence in their respective fields. Throughout its history, the awards have seen the best and worst in Sri Lanka’s capital markets, with last year being one of – if not the most – challenging of years. However, it is heartening to see market participants rising up to the challenge and continuing to respond to clients’ requirements effectively and responsibly. As a Society, we are pleased to recognise such excellence.”
She also notes: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank our past and present panel of judges across each award category, for their continued involvement and commitment over the years. Without their support, the CFA Capital Market Awards would not have been such a robust and sought-after awards ceremony in the domestic capital market.”
The awards will be presented under the categories of Best Equity Research Team, Best Equity Research Report, Best Sector Report, Best Investor Relations Team, and Best Unit Trust Team, with awards for Gold, Silver, and Bronze in each category respectively.
The judging of the Capital Market Awards will be conducted by a carefully selected panel consisting of both CFA charterholders as well as industry experts.
