Temporary Ban on Social Media Platforms, Lifted

After Easter Sunday bombings of churches and hotels in Sri Lanka killed more than 250 people, the Sri Lankan government has taken action to temporarily shut down social media to avoid the spread of misinformation.

Today (30th April 2019) the Temporary ban on WhatsApp, Viber, Facebook, Instagram and Other Social media platforms, are lifted as per the Mr.Nalaka Kaluwewa, Director General of Information. This was mentioned in the official press release issued by the department of government information regarding the temporary ban on Social media being lifted.
