Colleagues inspire youth across state and private universities
September 2024, Colombo: Sysco LABS recently announced the extension of Project Guiding Leadership and Outreach (GLO) to undergraduate students from state and private universities, aimed at driving sustainable development and change in communities around the country.
Led by GLO-certified Sysco LABS colleagues, the program has conducted trainings for students from various faculties at the Sri Jayewardenepura, Colombo, Kelaniya, Rajarata, Peradeniya and SLIIT universities. Aligned with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals and Sysco LABS’ core purpose of ‘connecting the world to share food and care for one another’, the program educates young people on the fundamentals of leadership in preparation for community outreach and sustainable development.
Speaking on the organisation’s approach to community leadership and its impact, Rehan Anthonis, Director of People Operations at Sysco LABS, said, “Project GLO’s efforts toward the development of youth will continue to equip new generations of leaders with essential skills and knowledge that will brighten their futures and their communities. The program reinforces the value of learning, collaboration, and connection in pursuing progress. The initiative aims to build better, purpose conscious leaders who can in turn positively impact their communities and inspire change. We hope to take this program even further in the future, with a competition for students to pitch their project ideas and we will select and incubate two such projects.”
Launched early this year, the initial phase of Project GLO involved the training and certification of 26 participants, including representatives from other leading corporates including Sysco LABS, Brandix, Fortude, IFS and JKH.
