Surado Campus inaugurates professional body for Sri Lankan skilled caregivers




 

  • Marks the momentous occasion with the graduation of 350 skilled caregivers 
  • Declares 5th March as National Caregivers Day 

Marking a momentous occasion for the local caregivers’ industry, the leading, privately-led vocational training institution for local and foreign employment Surado Campus of Business Management recently inaugurated Sri Lanka Professional Caregivers Association. The association, the first of its kind in the country, was formed to mark Surado’s 11th anniversary, where for the first time in the world, 350 professional caregivers graduated simultaneously.

The prestigious ceremony and the conviction were held at the BMICH with the participation of several dignitaries, including Chief Guest Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena – Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, Dr. Prathibha Mahanamahewage – Head of Sripali Campus and Former Ambassador Sarath Wijesinghe PC. During the event, 5th March was declared National Caregivers Day to appreciate further and honor the service of professional Sri Lankan caregivers.

To protect the rights of caregivers and care receivers and further uplift the profession’s dignity and professionalism, the Sri Lanka Professional Caregivers Association was formed to train unskilled and semi-skilled local caregivers to become skilled caregivers. It also aims to prepare a standard code of ethics for the industry while securing a higher income for its members and looking after their social well-being. Additionally, the association plans to uplift caregiving professionals as entrepreneurs and develop a grooming Centre for local caregivers.

Commenting on this significant initiative, P.S.R.Buddhika, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Surado Campus of Business Management, said, “Caregiving has always been important to families, friends and communities, but over the last year and a half, caregiving has escalated in its value and significance. In such a context, inaugurating Sri Lanka Professional Caregivers Association is a crucial step we have taken as an organization to protect the rights of Sri Lankan caregivers and elevate their profession to the next level. As a responsible institution that plays a crucial role in addressing the industry gap, we took the initiative to inaugurate this professional body to bring forward a message that caregiving is a critical part of a strong society.”

Established in 2012, Surado Campus of Business Management recently marked a decade of excellence and growth as a responsible, home-grown educational institute.
