November 11, 2022: The Sunshine Foundation for Good (SFG) −the corporate social responsibility arm of Sunshine Holdings PLC −recently joined hands with the Sri Lanka College of Pediatricians (SLCP) to support its child nutrition program ‘Feed a Child’. The program aims to protect children in Sri Lanka from malnutrition and ensure their nutritional needs are met amid the ongoing economic crisis.

A memorandum of understanding was signed and exchanged between Prof. Guwani Liyanage, President of SLCP and Shantha Bandara, Chief Executive Officer of Sunshine Pharmaceuticals. The Sunshine Foundation will be donating Rs. 5.4 million for this program, assisting SLCP to enhance the physical well-being of children aged between one and five by providing food packs in areas with high malnutrition statistics in Sri Lanka. SFG aims to support more than 150 children for six months through this contribution.

Commenting on the donation, Sunshine Holdings Group Managing Director Vish Govindasamy said, “There is global momentum for improving nutrition, and countries have made important strides in scaling up nutrition programs in pursuit of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal to end hunger and all forms of malnutrition by 2030. In such a context, we are extremely honored to support the Sri Lanka College of Pediatricians (SLCP) to eradicate child malnutrition in the country through their ‘Feed a Child’ initiative.”

SLCP launched the ‘Feed a Child’ initiative in August, and Nuwara Eliya was selected as the city with a very high childhood malnutrition rate. At the initiation of this endeavor, healthy and high-protein dry ration packs were donated to 491 families with malnourished children worth Rs. 3,000. Each such family would continue to receive these food packs every two weeks for the next six months.

Initiated to commemorate the Group’s 50th anniversary, the Sunshine Foundation for Good centralizes all CSR efforts undertaken by Sunshine Holdings through a sustainability committee and a project chair with clear objectives to drive change towards sustainability, with health and education as The Foundation’s two main pillars.
