Reaffirms commitment to ‘Better Water, Better Lives’ under the Diyasarana initiative

March 14, 2025: Continuing its mission to enhance access to safe drinking water in rural Sri Lanka, Sunshine Foundation for Good (SFG) – the CSR arm of Sunshine Holdings PLC – has inaugurated its 21st Reverse Osmosis (RO) water treatment plant at Nakwatthagama Kanishta Vidyalaya in Kurunegala.

This initiative, part of the Foundation’s flagship ‘Diyasarana’ program, will provide safe drinking water to a community of over 2,500 people, including school children, aiming to improve health and alleviate the burden of waterborne diseases, especially CKDu across the community. The plant was officially inaugurated and vested with the people by Sunshine Holdings Deputy Chairman Vish Govindasamy.

Speaking at the event, Sunshine Holdings Corporate Communications & CSR Manager Lalanthi Rajapakse stated, “Water is fundamental to life, yet thousands in rural Sri Lanka struggle daily for access to safe drinking water. The RO plant in Nakwatthagama represents our unwavering commitment to bridging this gap, ensuring not just clean water but a healthier future for these communities. With each project under our Diyasarana initiative, we reaffirm our pledge to empower lives through sustainable solutions that create a lasting impact.”

SFG’s ongoing commitment to providing safe drinking water stems from its larger vision of improving community health and well-being. Since the launch of its first RO plant in Katharagama, the Foundation has steadily expanded its reach, installing 21 plants nationwide to date. Each installation aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (UN SDG) of ‘Clean Water and Sanitation,’ reinforcing SFG’s dedication to ensuring equitable access to safe, free drinking water.

Established to consolidate the CSR initiatives of all Sunshine Holdings subsidiaries, the Sunshine Foundation for Good focuses on making a meaningful difference under two core pillars—health and education. Through the Diyasarana initiative, the Foundation remains committed to providing clean drinking water to vulnerable communities that lack access to safe water sources, helping them thrive with every drop.
