“Suicide: Asking the Real Questions” Mental Wellness Awareness Series

Have you ever felt suicidal? Have you ever attempted suicide? Have you experienced a family member, friend or acquaintance going through a difficult time due to suicidal thoughts?

In fact, experiencing suicidal thoughts is natural, so is subsiding such thoughts. The situation worsens if such thoughts remain for a long period of time buried in the mind, surfacing frequently, agonizing your life, and deteriorating your physical and mental wellness.

It is important to discuss the stigmas entailed with suicide, the social issues that cause suicides and how to find the way out if anyone is going through a calamitous time. “Suicide: Asking the Real Questions” brings significant thoughts to the table as the audience can hear from a suicide loss survivor and learn how to help anyone in need with the emotional support to save lives.

The speaker of the webinar “Suicide: Asking the Real Questions” shares her experience on her son’s suicide, her unspeakable loss and bereavement and her healing journey. Listening to her story and hearing from her about how she was able to cope up with the situation she went through as a mother will help us understand the complexity of handling such experiences and help anyone who needs help in improving the coping ability. It will strengthen us to strategically manage those who are suicidal as well as anyone who has experienced loss of their loved ones.

Currently in Sri Lanka, 8 people lose their lives due to suicide and for each death 20 others fail in their suicidal attempts.

“Suicide: Asking the Real Questions” is the third session of the webinar series organized by Sri Lanka Sumithrayo in collaboration with the Colombo Taprobane Round Table 3. Sri Lanka Sumithrayo is one of the pioneer charity organizations in Sri Lanka, providing the emotional support to the needy for close to five decades with the primary intention of minimizing suicide in the country.

This will be an extremely informative and beneficial webinar which will provide all of us with the insight to support and help those who may be suffering and believing that suicide is their only option.
