SriLankan Airlines, the National Carrier of Sri Lanka, organized a series of activities to share the joy of Sinhala and Tamil New Year festivities with passengers at Bandaranaike International Airport, Colombo.
The traditional cultural displays and the treats of New Year sweetmeats at the Serendib and Serendiva lounges delighted the passengers. Courtesy of SriLankan Catering, traditional sweetmeats were also offered onboard, providing passengers the opportunity to savour the true taste of Sri Lankan festivities.
In order to bring in the festive atmosphere, the Airline recreated some of the most fascinating customs that are intertwined with the Sinhala and Tamil New Year season, which symbolise the inherent Sri Lankan values such as care, hospitality and warmth. Passengers were delighted to be greeted by a couple dressed as the village headman and ‘menike’.
The dawn of the New Year was marked with playing of ‘raban’ followed by a New Year game, ‘spot the eye of the elephant’ which was an overwhelming success. The passengers enjoyed taking part in the game and the winners walked away with prizes.
