Sri Lanka is one of the most popular tourist destinations in South Asia due to its beautiful sceneries, vivid nature, and heritage. It is also home to some of the world’s most unique and historic locations, some of which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Despite the challenging recent years due to Easter bomb attacks, COVID-19 pandemic, and the economic crisis, this magnificent island continued to attract tourist around the world.
Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), the official government institution tasked with regularizing the tourism industry in the country, has revealed that 102,545 tourists have visited Sri Lanka in January 2023. This is a noticeable increase compared to January 2022, which recorded 82,327 tourist arrivals.
Russia (25,254), India (13,759), United Kingdom (8,483) and Germany (8,217) are the top four countries from where these tourists have arrived. And the remaining tourists have been from France, Canada, Australia, USA, Maldives, and Israel.
