Sri Lanka SOLD more than half of Sri Lanka’s remaining gold reserves in December 2021

According to the SJB parliamentarian Dr.Harsha De Silva, Sri Lanka has sold down almost 50% of the official gold reserves in December 2021. Reserves down to USD 175mn+. He has mentioned this in his Official Twitter Account.

“I was right but was wrong on the date. @CBSL SOLD more than half of #SriLanka’s remaining gold reserves. From USD 382m we are now down to just USD 175.4m. Also, no mention of whether CNY 10b (accounted as equivalent to USD 1.5b) can be used for debt repayment” – Tweeted

 

 

According to recent data, Sri Lanka Gold Reserves as reported at 382.210 USD mn in Nov 2021. This records a decrease from the previous number of 384.122 USD mn for Oct 2021. Sri Lanka Gold Reserves data is updated monthly, averaging 46.173 USD mn from Dec 1977 to Nov 2021, with 528 observations. The data reached an all-time high of 985.636 USD mn in Sep 2013 and a record low of 0.000 USD mn in Dec 1977. Sri Lanka Gold Reserves data remains active status in CEIC and is reported by CEIC Data.

Sri Lanka Central bank has sold over half of its gold reserve to boost official reserves in December, official data show. Gold reserves valued at $382.2 million at the end of November, has plummeted 54.1% to 175.4 miliom by end December. According to Central Bank’s Weekly Economic Indicators as on 7/1/22, Central Bank has reduced gold reserve from $382mn to $175mn (sale of about 3mt) during Dec; CB had sold 13MT in 2/2020 reducing gold reserve to 6mt; – — W A Wijewardena
