In an exciting move to elevate the capacities and competencies of badminton coaches in Sri Lanka, the newly appointed Sri Lanka Badminton Coaching Development Committee (BCDC) is spearheading a groundbreaking policy. This visionary initiative aims to equip coaches to conquer future challenges and cultivate a generation of world-class players. The policies, currently in the proposal stage, will soon be presented for ratification at the upcoming general committee meeting, with full implementation anticipated by 2025. With a comprehensive four-year plan, the BCDC intends to revolutionize the sector while instilling a licensing system to uphold professionalism among badminton coaches.

Teaming up with the esteemed Badminton Foundation, the BCDC is launching its inaugural event: the Basic Level Coacher Training Program. Taking place at the prestigious Prince Cook Stadium in Anuradhapura on July 8th and 9th, 2023, this program targets new coaches in the Northern Province and North Central Province. Its objective is to equip coaches with essential skills and knowledge vital to their coaching journeys.

Building upon this momentous initiative, the BCDC has secured invaluable assistance from the Badminton World Federation (BWF), Badminton Asia (BA), and the National Olympic Committee (NOC) to conduct the highly anticipated BWF Level 1 Coaching Program in Sri Lanka. Slated for July, this program will bring together aspiring coaches from across the nation, providing them with specialized training and certification endorsed by esteemed international organizations.

To further empower coaches, the BCDC has meticulously designed a series of comprehensive training programs scheduled for this year. These include the SLB Level 2 Coaching Program, a second installment of the BWF Level 1 Coaching Program, and the prestigious BWF Level 2 Coaching Program. These programs are crafted to augment coaches’ knowledge and expertise, enabling them to nurture exceptional talent and guide players towards their full potential.

The BCDC’s unwavering commitment to developing the badminton coaching sector through structured training programs and the implementation of a licensing system underscores their dedication to fostering professionalism and excellence within the industry. By equipping coaches with essential tools and expertise, Sri Lanka aims to enhance its presence in the international badminton arena and produce exceptional players capable of competing at the highest level.

With the implementation of these transformative policies and initiatives, Sri Lanka is poised to establish a vibrant ecosystem for badminton coaching, one that nurtures growth, cultivates talent, and paves the way for a luminous future for the sport within the country.

Stay tuned for the latest updates on the BCDC’s dynamic endeavors as they continue to shape the landscape of badminton coaching in Sri Lanka and propel the nation towards resounding success on the global stage.
