8th December 2021, Colombo: Sports Vision by Sri Lanka’s largest eye care provider Vision Care is ready to transform school athletes’ performance by using cutting-edge technology that is used by international athletes across the world. Sri Lankan school athletes can now gain access to specialized visual skill assessment packages at Sports Vision by Vision Care located at Colombo 2 for a nominal fee. The revolutionary technology includes Sri Lanka’s first-ever Senaptec Sensory Station that provides the world’s most complete automated solution for the sensory skills that matter by helping assess 10 sensory parameters and providing training on all of them.

Sports Vision targets and strengthens the active visual skills needed to excel in sports and enhances athletic performance. The visual skill assessment packages present a great opportunity for any school athlete participating in sports such as cricket, tennis, badminton, table tennis, football, rugby, basketball, volleyball, netball, and hockey to gain a competitive edge in the sport. It is also ideally-suited for athletes taking part in Esports, the world of competitive, organized video gaming that has been rising in popularity across the globe and in Sri Lanka in recent years and was recognised by the Sports Ministry of Sri Lanka as a national sport in 2019.

Athletes require much more than strength, speed and agility to continuously improve and excel in their relevant sport. The Sports Vision Trainer/ optometrist will first assess the athlete’s status of different visual skills essential to the sports discipline. These may include visual clarity, contrast sensitivity, depth perception, near/far quickness, perception span, multiple object tracking, reaction time, target capture, hand-eye coordination and other visual processing capabilities. Athletes are provided with Senaptec Strobe Glasses that are specifically designed to train the connections between the eyes, brain and body. Additionally, Multisensory Integration provides mechanisms to test the different senses related to the training, such as sight and self-motion, and gives out information on how the athlete is performing and improving.

In addition, Sports Vision also offers a Home Training App that allows the athlete to use a tablet to train visual skills at home, an aspect which is very useful given the uncertainty caused by the pandemic situation in the country. By training teenagers to develop specific visual skills and processing, they retrain their brains to effectively interact with the eyes and improve vision functioning. All the cutting-edge technology and specialized training of Sports Vision by Vision Care helps to train athletes’ brains, to optimize their sports performance, enhance their efficiency in their professional and social environment as well as boost their self-confidence.
