The SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre is recognised for offering world-class educational solutions and is committed to providing comprehensive training and qualifications to meet the evolving needs of the telecommunications sector and the knowledge economy.

Janaka Abeysinghe, CEO, SLT, shared his thoughts, saying, “We are pleased to announce our partnership with TVEC and our commitment to providing National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) assessments for the telecom sector using our education arm, SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre. Through this collaboration, we aim to empower individuals in the industry by officially recognizing their skills and granting National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ). Together, we aim to unlock new opportunities and pave the way for a skilled and competent workforce in the dynamic field of telecommunications.”

With the rapid advancements and evolving nature of the telecommunications sector, it is crucial to acknowledge the expertise and capabilities of professionals already working in the field. RPL assessments offer an opportunity for these individuals to have their skills formally recognized and validated, boosting their professional credibility and ensuring career advancement.

The collaboration between SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre and TVEC marks a significant milestone in the telecommunications industry. With this agreement, the SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre will act as an assessment body to award national vocational qualifications through Recognition of Prior Learning, facilitating competency-based assessments specifically tailored to the telecommunications industry.

Dr. K. A. Lalithadheera, Director General, TVEC, stated, “Leading the way in technical and vocational education in Sri Lanka, we are committed to certifying skilled technicians through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) approach, granting them NVQ certification. By evaluating past work evidence and assessing current competencies according to the National Competency Standards (NCS), we ensure rigorous standards are met. In recognition of their industry leadership, we have entrusted SLT-MOBITEL, along with their renowned SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre, to conduct RPL assessments and award NVQ in selected occupations. Leveraging the extensive network of training and testing centres at SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre, along with our proficient human resources, we offer candidates a significant advantage in this process. We encourage aspiring individuals in the sector to apply for NVQ certification, guaranteeing official recognition of their skills. NVQ holders will gain numerous benefits, including national and international recognition. Furthermore, they are invited to obtain a ‘Skills Passport,’ expanding their skill set to global career opportunities.”

Through this initiative, SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre is able to promote the importance of lifelong learning and provide professionals in the industry with valuable vocational qualifications. Additionally, as a centre providing RPL assessments, SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre offers a formal process to evaluate and certify individuals’ competencies gained through practical experience, enabling them to receive recognition for their skills. SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre will also ensure that the RPL assessments adhere to industry standards and best practices.

Furthermore, as the SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre has been appointed as an assessment body for conducting RPL assessments, employees working in technical, sales, and contact centre fields can now apply for the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 4 through RPL.

The assessment process is designed to accommodate different individuals from diverse backgrounds. By offering this revolutionary pathway, SLT-MOBITEL Training Centre aims to streamline the qualification process and provide a more accessible route for individuals to enhance their skills and career prospects in the telecommunications industry.
