SLASSCOM (Sri Lanka Association for Software Services Companies) is thrilled to announce the continuation of its partnership with the Royal Norwegian Embassy. This collaboration builds on a history of impactful programs that have transformed Sri Lanka’s knowledge and innovation sector, focusing on skill development, AI awareness, startups and the empowerment of women tech entrepreneurs.
The Norwegian partnership will fuel initiatives that address skill gaps, promote inclusive leadership, and foster innovation in the tech sector. Programs like the Advanced Leadership Development initiative, AI Roundtable, Hack Like a Girl and the “Xcellerate” programme will continue to uplift entrepreneurs and professionals, creating a more inclusive and competitive ICT industry in Sri Lanka.
Highlighting the success of previous collaborations, SLASSCOM Chairman Nishan Mendis stated:
“The longstanding partnership with Norway has been pivotal in creating meaningful change. Through initiatives such as the TechKids program, National and Regional IT&BPM Weeks, and the AI Asia Summits, we’ve equipped thousands with critical skills and positioned Sri Lanka as a burgeoning hub for AI and innovation. This new partnership is a testament to the trust Norway places in our vision.”
The impact of prior initiatives has been remarkable. Over the years, the TechKids program has reached more than 8,000 children, encouraging early exposure to coding and AI. Similarly, the AI Asia Summit has attracted global and local leaders, fostering collaboration between academia and industry while creating pathways for Sri Lanka to establish itself as an AI solutions destination.
May-Elin Stener, the Royal Norwegian Ambassador in New Delhi, praised the partnership: “Norway is a supporter of innovation and inclusivity. The project with SLASSCOM aims to fulfil that purpose by empowering communities, bridging skill gaps, and driving entrepreneurship, particularly among women. We strongly believe that such initiatives will help further boost Sri Lanka’s potential as a global technology leader.”
