Colombo, March 29, 2021 – Seylan Tikiri, the pioneer Children’s savings account in Sri Lanka together with the Wildlife and Nature Protection Authority (WNPS) initiated the “Up-cycled Waste Items Competition” to teach children about the importance of recycling and their responsibility towards nature. The digital competition is designed to educate young children on the importance of protecting nature while allowing them to bring out their creativity.

Tikiri, the most beloved children’s savings account by Seylan Bank is always on the lookout for innovative ways to educate, engage and encourage children on multiple aspects, through digital platforms. With this initiative team Seylan wanted to encourage their youngest customers to observe, learn and create using what surrounds them. Children who emerge winners through this competition stand a chance to win exciting and valuable Tikiri Gift packs.

“Seylan Tikiri is more than a children’s savings account, with Seylan Tikiri we try to create a platform to educate, engage and motivate children while inculcating the habit of saving within them. Understanding the difficulties parents face to keep their children occupied during a time of crisis such as this, our team initiated a host of innovative activities and competitions throughout the year. Each session was carefully designed to educate, engage and motivate children, we saw great enthusiasm and support from children and parents on such activities and believe that it is a great value addition from our end as the most loved children’s savings account in the country” said Gamika De Silva, Assistant General Manager – Marketing and Sales, Seylan Bank.

Sharing his thoughts on the initiative Mr Jehan CanagaRetna, General Secretary Wildlife and Nature Protection Society said, “We must all realize that there is no planet B, and do our best to become ‘conscious consumers’. Collectively we must become more aware of how our waste impacts our country and our environment and make conscious decisions to buy less whilst doing our best to recycle or upcycle waste. The main goal of this competition is to encourage kids to reduce waste and teach them the value of recycling and upcycling while encouraging creative thinking and Systematic Conservation methods”.

Throughout the lockdown period, Seylan Tikiri played an important part in keeping children’s spirits high with a range of online activities such as Tikiri lockdown diary, Tikiri Digital Avurudu, Vesak Pathuma, Tikiri Champ, Story Telling and many more. These activities were able to keep the children engaged and occupied while being indoors. Apart from inculcating the habit of saving amongst children, Seylan Tikiri also focuses on moulding the future generations of Sri Lanka to be responsible, educated citizens.
