The three-day 13th International Poultry Show is going to be held in Dhaka on 20 February 2025. More than 200 companies from 17 countries of the world will be present at the event with their latest technology and product displays.
The World Poultry Science Association-Bangladesh Branch (WAPSA-BB) and Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council (BPICC) made this information known at a seminar titled ‘Building a Resilient Poultry Industry in Bangladesh; Evolution, Challenges and Strategy’ at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Thursday, 13 February 2025. The seminar was organized by Fisheries and Livestock Journalists Forum (FLJF).
It was informed in the seminar that the International Poultry Seminar will be held on 18-19 February 2025 at a hotel in the capital. And the 13th International Poultry Show will be held on 20-22 February 2025 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center in Purbachal. The poultry fair will be open to everyone from 10 am to 6 pm. Free shuttle buses have been arranged from 300 feet on Kuril Bishwa Road all day long. The speakers at the seminar said that the prices of eggs and chicken meat will be tolerable in the upcoming Ramadan.
WAPSA-Bangladesh branch president Mashiur Rahman said, 2024 was a disastrous year for the poultry industry due to heavy rains, drought, disease and bacterial infections, and abnormal fluctuations in market prices. Numerous farmers have become destitute. Several large corporate organizations have also been forced to curtail their businesses. The domestic poultry industry is working on a long-term plan with 2050 in mind. To produce quality protein in the shortest possible time, maximum use of technology must be ensured, farm management must be modernized, and research spending must be increased. For this, the government must pay special attention to the poultry industry. He said, this goal cannot be achieved without modern knowledge and technology about poultry science. Our aim in organizing this fair is to help Bangladesh and Bangladeshi farmers achieve that capability. In response to questions from journalists, Mashiur said, there is no possibility of egg and chicken prices increasing in the upcoming Ramadan. The government’s Department of Livestock and the Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council (BPICC) will, as always, sell eggs and chicken at farm rates in the capital Dhaka throughout the month of Ramadan.
In the main article of the seminar, General Secretary of WAPSA-Bangladesh Branch, Biplob Kumar Pramanik said that feed production had decreased quite a bit after 2020. Last year, production increased slightly. It is expected that it will increase further this year, meaning that egg and chicken production will also increase. He said, you can’t just eat anything, food must be healthy and safe. Since most of the people in our country are middle-income, WAPSA Bangladesh Branch is working tirelessly to find ways to keep eggs or chicken meat within the purchasing power of the common people.
Breeders Association of Bangladesh (BAB) President Mahabubur Rahman said, “Even though farmers suffered losses during the previous government’s tenure, it was not a situation to be talked about loudly. At that time, cases were filed against the organizations of those who came forward under the leadership of the Poultry Association. Many cases have not been settled yet. We do not want to see such a situation again.” Mahabub said, “The government has fixed the retail price of eggs at Tk 11.87, but they are being sold in the market for only Tk 10.50. There is a fear that the price will fall further in the coming Ramadan. It is not possible for grassroots farmers to cope with these losses. Therefore, the government and other concerned parties must come forward to help them.”
Mohammad Nazrul Islam, General Secretary of the Feed Industries Association, said that the dropout of farmers and entrepreneurs must be prevented and the poultry industry must be built on a sustainable and strong foundation.
The seminar, chaired by FLJF President Munna Raihan, was also addressed by DBC News Editor Lotan Ekram, RTV Head of News Ilias Hossain, and FLJF General Secretary Zahidur Rahman.
