Salon Sudarshani Academy of Haircutting has been awarded as the Most Trending Haircut Training Academy at the Entrepreneurial Excellency Awards organised by the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Community Development (CECD). The award recognises the academy’s commitment to training, job placement, and community service, shaping the futures of thousands of students. Founded 31 years ago with a vision to provide high-quality haircut training, Salon Sudarshani Academy has become a prominent name in the industry. Every day, between 75-100 students from across the country receive hands-on training at the academy. Over the past three decades, nearly 20,000 graduates have successfully completed the programme and launched their careers.
The training programme lasts 45-60 days and covers all aspects of professional hair cutting techniques. Students graduate with six certificates registered with the Vocational Training Authority (VTA), equipping them with the credentials needed to secure stable employment in the industry. One of the academy’s standout features is its strong job placement programme, ensuring that every graduate finds meaningful employment upon course completion. Salon Sudarshani Academy also focuses on giving back to the community. Students participate in free haircut programmes at children’s homes, elderly homes, hospitals, drug rehabilitation centres, and the National Institute of Mental Health in Mulleriyawa and Angoda. This initiative not only helps the underprivileged but also allows students to practice their craft in a real-world setting, building confidence and compassion. The academy’s success is driven by W. M .K. Roshan, its owner and main trainer, whose leadership has ensured continuous growth and excellence. The academy owns a total of 10 salons within the Gampaha District, with the main one located in Batuwatta, Ragama.
