Rotaract Club of Colombo North, a youth partner of Rotary Club of Colombo North, has successfully completed auditions for Sri Lanka’s first-ever stand-up comedy incubator program. The Rotaract Club aims to serve society in numerous ways, and its latest initiative is Project HAHA, a professional development project aimed at raising funds for community service initiatives in 2023/24.

Project HAHA is focused on providing soft skills training to participants, as well as further training on language, speech, and overall stage presence to eight selected comedians. The objective of the project is to give these comedians a platform to showcase their comedic talent to Sri Lanka, while raising funds for community service initiatives.

The project kicked off with auditions under phase one, which took place on the 18th of March at Hatch Works. Over 30 young talents took part, with the judges for the event being well-known stand-up comics David Divakar, Anderson Haran, and Insaff Ahamed. The selected eight comics will be part of the comedy incubator program, where they will develop their skills in stage presence, writing, and delivery under the guidance of experienced trainers in the field.

To prepare for the grand finale, the comics will be given stage to test their sets after each of their training sessions under the theme “Backyard Comedy”. The grand finale, called “Last Man Standing,” will be a competition between the eight comics, with one of them being awarded the title of “Neighborhood comedian” and a cash prize of Rs. 75,000/-, the biggest cash reward in the club’s history in Rotaract. The finale will feature leading stand-ups from across the country, along with a special performance from a comedian from abroad.

The Rotaract Club of Colombo North is a community-based club that brings together individuals of countless castes, creeds, races, and cultures. The club passionately undertakes the exchange of innovative and diverse ideas, opinions, and thoughts in terms of serving society and developing one another. The club embraces diversity and celebrates the participation of people of all backgrounds, irrespective of age, nationality, color, skills, sexuality, social status, community, and gender identity.

The Rotaract Club of Colombo North’s Project HAHA is a unique and exciting initiative that aims to provide a platform for young comedians while raising funds for community service initiatives. With its successful completion of auditions, the club is one step closer to achieving its goals and making a positive impact in the community.
