Cleantech (Pvt) Ltd., a subsidiary of Abans Group, and Sri Lanka’s leading provider of integrated waste management solutions, was honored with the Silver Award in the “Best Managed Project in Green Outcome” category at the National Project Management Excellence Awards (NPME) 2024. This recognition honors the company’s impactful “Plastic Pelletizing Project,” which effectively processes 35,000 kg of plastic monthly, diverting waste from landfills and waterways.

Organized by the Project Management Institute (PMI) Sri Lanka Colombo Chapter, the NPME Awards annually recognize outstanding achievements and best practices in project management across various sectors in Sri Lanka.

Kasun Tennakoon, Head of Circular Economy Services of Cleantech (Pvt) Ltd, expressed his thoughts about the award, stating, “We wholeheartedly convey thanks to all our beloved employees, staff co-workers, and colleagues for their valued contribution which led us to these heights. Their commitment and innovative thinking were instrumental in the success of the Plastic Pelletizing Project. This award is a significant recognition of our ongoing efforts to promote a sustainable future.”

The plastic industry faces a major global challenge: used plastic disposal. Cleantech (Pvt) Ltd has addressed this concern head-on since 2004 through its plastic recycling division, now part of the Cleantech Circular Economy Services.

The company’s dedication to plastic reclamation is evident in its remarkable growth. Initially equipped with basic resources – a single crushing machine and a skilled workforce – Cleantech could recycle 7 Metric tons of plastic monthly.

Recognizing the opportunity for greater impact, Cleantech Circular Economy Services invested in state-of-the-art facilities, including two additional crusher machines and a pelletizer. This expansion has significantly increased their processing capacity to 35 Metric tons of plastic monthly.

Cleantech’s plastic pellets, produced from recycled plastic, serve as a sustainable substitute for virgin plastic in non-food grade equipment and cartons. The Cleantech Circular Economy Services division prioritizes strict quality control measures to ensure their pellets meet the highest standards and client requirements. Furthermore, Cleantech intends to utilize recycled plastic in its own potential product line, including dustpans and lady bins.

Cleantech (Pvt) Ltd.’s commitment to sustainable practices extends beyond this award. By continuously innovating and expanding its plastic recycling capabilities, Cleantech is not only diverting plastic waste from landfills and waterways but also creating a more circular economy in Sri Lanka. This not only benefits the environment but also fosters a more sustainable future for generations to come.

Cleantech for a Cleaner, Greener tomorrow.
