The Sri Lankan national champion, Ranithma Liyanage made light work to advance to the second round at the St Denis Reunion Open 2024, following a dominant straight-set win over Lalicia Rasolonoelina of Madagascar, on Thursday.
At the Gymnase Champ Fleuri in Reunion, the 17-year-old shuttler who currently occupies the 183rd spot in the Badminton World Federation singles rankings, showcased her dominance on the court, securing a comprehensive victory with scores of 21-3, 21-5 in just 14 minutes. The emphatic win secured her place in the pre-quarter-finals in which she was to face home hero Emmanuelle Aamette, later on Friday.
The 2024 St Denis Reunion Open, part of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) calendar and features the top 50 ranked players worldwide, offers a total prize purse of $25,000.
