
Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasooriya participated in the prestigious International Expert Conference held at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France, under the theme “An Integrated and Sustainable Approach to Safeguarding the Sacred City of Anuradhapura, a World Heritage Site in Sri Lanka.” The conference brought together leading global experts in heritage conservation, archaeology, and sustainable development to discuss innovative strategies for the long-term protection of sacred and historic cities.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Amarasooriya emphasized the cultural, spiritual, and historical significance of Anuradhapura, highlighting its role as a symbol of Sri Lanka’s ancient civilization and a beacon of Buddhist heritage. She called for enhanced international collaboration and knowledge sharing to preserve the site for future generations while balancing the needs of local communities. The Prime Minister also engaged in bilateral discussions with representatives from UNESCO and other member states to explore new avenues of technical and financial support for heritage conservation efforts in Sri Lanka.
