The fair is being jointly organized by the Bangladesh Plastic Products Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA) and Hong Kong-based company Yokers Trade and Marketing Service.

This information was given at a Press Conference at the BPGMEA office in Purana Paltan, Dhaka on Monday 10 February 2025. Samim Ahmed, President of the Bangladesh Plastic Products Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA), read out a written statement.

Present at the press conference were former presidents of BPGMEA ASM Kamal Uddin, Ferdous Wahed and Shahedul Islam, current board senior vice president KM Iqbal Hossain, vice president Kazi Anwarul Haque, directors ATM Saidur Rahman, Nur Alam Bachchu and Akai Lin, IPF co-organizer and overseas director of Yorker Trade and Marketing Service Company Limited.

It was informed at the press conference that Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin will inaugurate the exhibition as the chief guest. Commerce Secretary Md. Abdur Rahim Khan, Administrator of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), the apex organization of businessmen, Md. Hafizur Rahman, and President of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry Md. Jasim Uddin will be present as special guests at the inauguration ceremony.

BPGMEA President Samim Ahmed said that at the fair, domestic companies will display various types of plastic products used in households, packaging materials, plastic molds, crockery, toys, necessary materials for the pharmaceutical industry, plastic furniture, melamine products, necessary products for the ready-made garment sector, PP woven bags, etc. On the other hand, foreign companies will display plastic injection molding machines, PP woven bag machines, packaging machines, flexographic printing machines, PET blow machines and plastic bag making machines or devices.

Samim Ahmed said the government has been providing cash assistance for a long time. However, last year, the assistance was reduced from 10 percent to 6 percent, which has had a negative impact on exports. He also demanded the withdrawal of VAT on plastic toys.

According to BPGMEA, the size of the global plastic products market in 2023 was 627 billion US dollars. Bangladesh’s share in this huge market is only 0.5 percent. In the latest fiscal year 2023-24, plastic products worth 107.3 million dollars were exported from the country. With this information, the president of BPGMEA said that the plastic market is growing at home and abroad. The use of plastic in the automobile, electrical and electronics sectors is increasing. Although this sector has potential for export, it is not getting the same opportunities as ready-made garments.

This four-day fair will continue until February 15. The exhibition will be open to visitors every day from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm.
