The state visit of His Excellency President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to China deepened the longstanding friendship between the two nations and further strengthened bilateral ties, as both sides explored new avenues for economic collaboration.

Among the highlights of the visit was a series of discussions with leading global corporations in China, including representatives from BYD, signifying a shared commitment to innovation and sustainable development.

The dialogue included deliberations on Sri Lanka’s upcoming lifting of vehicle import restrictions, effective 1st February 2025, and strategies for advancing green mobility solutions and infrastructure in the country.

As one of the first New Energy Vehicle (NEV) manufacturers that will be exporting to Sri Lanka post-restriction, BYD expects to play a key role in supporting the nation’s transition towards sustainable transportation. During the visit, BYD also showcased its sophisticated expertise in zero-emission technologies and reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating a sustainable economic recovery for all Sri Lankans.

BYD operates in Sri Lanka under John Keells CG Auto, a joint venture between the John Keells Group and CG Corp Global, driving the nation’s transition toward clean energy mobility. The company remains at the forefront of providing innovative and eco-friendly vehicle solutions, aligning with the government’s vision for a greener future.
