
8th April 2025, Colombo, Sri Lanka: Port City Colombo participated as a Platinum Partner at the ‘Invest Sri Lanka’ Business Forum 2025, held on 3rd April, 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand. The event was organised by the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in Thailand in collaboration with the Thai-Sri Lanka Chamber of Commerce. The aim of this premier occasion was to promote Sri Lanka as an emerging foreign direct investment (FDI) destination to prospective investors from across the Southeast Asian region.
The forum was held at the Grande Centre Point Surawong Hotel in Bangkok and was attended by high-level dignitaries, including the Chief Guest, Hon. Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. Notable dignitaries also included the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, H.E. E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce (JFCCT) Chairperson, Mrs. Vibeke Lyssand Leirvag, and the Thai Chamber of Commerce Chairman, Dr. Poj Aramwattananont. The forum was also supported by other partners including Ruwanpura Gems Co Ltd and Rockers Auto Imports Co Ltd, both based in Thailand.
As one of the main highlights of the event, the Port City Colombo team presented a special showcase on the project’s strategic vision, progressive regulatory framework, and its potential to attract sustainable and high-value Foreign Direct Investments into Sri Lanka. The presentation further emphasized Port City Colombo’s role in shaping Sri Lanka’s next phase of economic growth by leveraging its unique dynamics as a foreign-currency designated special economic zone that is dedicated to the export of modern services. Port City Colombo representatives held further discussions on fostering investment promotion, policy, and collaborative economic growth between Sri Lanka and Thailand, during the exclusive networking session which took place after the main event proceedings.
Sri Lanka’s political stability and renewed sense of hope will propel it to become “the world’s next success story,” Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated. She further stated that her government has begun to witness signs of economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent economic crisis, and noted that this marks the beginning of a “new era” for Sri Lanka, as the country embarks on robust infrastructure development and invests in cultivating a more highly skilled workforce. She invited investors to be part of Sri Lanka’s transformation and long-term growth story.
H.E. E.A.S. Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, also addressed the forum and welcomed all guests. She urged Thai investors to invest in Sri Lanka for the benefit of both nations.
