Plasticcycle placed 16 more bins and hoardings sponsored by Elephant House (Ceylon Cold Stores PLC), in association with the Road Development Authority and Eco Spindles as an addition to the already existing bins in the Southern Expressway on the 2nd of December 2019. These new bins are placed in the Outer Circular Highway, which connects the Katunayake Expressway and the Southern Expressway. The bins are located at the Kerewalapitiya interchange, Kerewelapitiya exit and Kadawatha exit of the Outer Circular Highway.

The 4R’s – Refuse, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle are continuously promoted by Plasticcycle as it strives towards achieving its vision of being the catalyst in significantly reducing plastic pollution in Sri Lanka. The project has collected 2 Metric Tons which is equivalent to over 60,000 PET bottles to date in the expressways alone which are responsibly recycled by Eco Spindles. Further, in line with increasing awareness among the general public, Plasticcycle conducted an awareness campaign on the 7th of December, 2019 educating up to 10,000 commuters who use the expressway by distributing leaflets, to encourage them to deposit their waste plastic bottles to be recycled.
