Orion City, the nation’s premier IT and business park, has expanded its sustainable infrastructure with a fully operational 700 kW solar energy project at its Colombo 09 complex. This landmark initiative underscores Orion City’s commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, driving a forward-thinking approach to eco-friendly infrastructure and establishing its position as a leading Green IT/BPM destination in Sri Lanka.

The solar project integrates with Orion City’s advanced power management systems, reducing reliance on conventional energy sources and ensuring 24/7 uninterrupted power for tenants. Orion City’s dedication to sustainable design is further demonstrated in its LEED Gold-certified Orion Tower I and LEED Silver-certified Anton Building, reinforcing the complex’s environmental credentials.

Home to over 85 local and international companies—including major names like Virtusa, IFS, Michelin, WNS Global, Atlas Axillia and Anton —Orion City supports a workforce of more than 10,000 professionals who collectively contribute to Sri Lanka’s economic growth. By implementing solar energy, Orion City not only provides green infrastructure for its tenants but also reduces carbon emissions, contributing to a more sustainable business ecosystem in Sri Lanka.

The solar project extends its impact to Orion City’s flagship facilities, including the Orion City Hotel, an eco-conscious accommodation option for business travelers, and the Orion Stellar Data Center, an energy-efficient, high-density hub for data-driven industries. These facilities, along with the new EV charging station—set to open on January 1st, 2025—enhance Orion City’s role as a leader in sustainable infrastructure, offering green solutions for both tenants and visitors. “Orion City’s solar energy project is a milestone in our mission to build resilient and sustainable infrastructure,” said Mr. Indika Hettige, Facilities Manager at Orion City. “This initiative aligns with our ESG principles and addresses the needs of our tenants, while also supporting Sri Lanka’s drive toward a more sustainable economy.”

From its inception, Orion City has prioritized custom-built commercial spaces grounded in sustainable practices. This solar energy project cements Orion City’s leadership in green infrastructure, supporting a cleaner, more sustainable future for Sri Lanka and solidifying its standing as a top destination for eco-conscious businesses.
