Hasaranga Malitha Sooriyaarachchi and Sithuli Satnadee Ranasinghe clinched the open men’s and women’s singles titles respectively at the Northern Province Badminton Association (NPBA) All-Island Open Championships, held in Kilinochchi, over the weekend.
This exhilarating competition was organised by the Northern Province Badminton Association, affiliated with Sri Lanka Badminton and took place at the Northern Province Indoor Badminton Sports Complex in Killianachchi.
In the men’s doubles category, the duo of Alan Darmasaput Kristanato and Marcello Vittorio claimed the coveted title.
Over on the women’s side, Irushi Amandi and Sandathi Dewmini showcased their prowess by securing the open women’s doubles title.
The open mixed doubles title was secured by the formidable partnership of Alan Darmasaput Kristanato and Renu Chandrika de Silva.
In the U-19 Boys’ category, Hasaranga Malitha Sooriyaarachchi demonstrated his exceptional talent by clinching the singles title, adding to his list of achievements in the prestigious tournament. Meanwhile, Sandathi Dewmini also secured a double by winning the U-19 Girls’ singles title.
The Northern Province All-Ceylon Open Badminton Tournament featured an extensive range of categories, including a number of senior and junior divisions apart from the Open events. The junior categories included U-11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 boys and girls singles and doubles. Additionally, the tournament also included senior men’s and women’s singles and doubles for players over 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60, 65 and 70.
