New Anthoney’s Group, one of Sri Lanka’s leading poultry producers making strides in environmental stewardship and sustainability, was recently recognized at Soy Connext, the Global U.S. Soy Summit, held at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis, August 19-21, 2024.
Organized by the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC), this year’s Soy Connext summit brought together over 700 participants from over 60 countries, with discussions ranging from current market development and future trends, U.S. Soy farmer insights, nutrition science, food labeling and packaging, supply chain and sustainability among others.
In July last year, New Anthoney’s Group was awarded the Sustainable U.S. Soy and Fed with Sustainable U.S. Soy labels on their products, making them the first in the entire South Asian and Sub-Saharan Africa region. Following this benchmark, many others in the industry followed suit.
‘‘Through extraordinary leadership and an impressive vision, New Anthoney’s has clearly demonstrated a first-mover advantage in the adoption of the Fed with Sustainable U.S. Soy label. Its utility has now been demonstrated and USSEC wholeheartedly congratulates them and looks forward to working hand-in-hand with them, and many others, on the sustainable U.S. Soy journey’’, said Kevin Roepke, Regional Director for South Asia and Sub-Sharan Africa, USSEC.
The labels are used to promote products containing soy verified by the U.S. Soy Sustainability Assurance Protocol (SSAP), one of the first sustainability verification schemes developed by USSEC. New Anthoney’s will also now be able to include its soy purchase’s carbon footprint on the SSAP certificate, which can be used in its carbon accounting.
Setting a tone for the rest of the industry and region, New Anthoney’s continues to stand strong as a foremost sustainable poultry producer. From sourcing sustainable U.S. soy feeds through to adopting biodegradable packaging measures and many others, New Anthoney’s embraces sustainability in all aspects of its operations and supply chain. It is also the first poultry producer in Sri Lanka to obtain the FSSC 22000 certification.
New Anthoney’s continued loyalty sourcing U.S. Soy is yet another example of the crucial importance it places on providing the highest quality produce to its customers. Research continues to show that soy from the U.S. is a premium product that increases operational efficiencies for livestock farms, feed mills, and oil crushers; introduces better flavor profiles in the soy foods sector, and exemplifies on-farm stewardship and conservation efforts, giving it the lowest carbon footprint.
