Munchee Proudly Sponsors National Volleyball Championship for 12th Consecutive Year

Munchee, the flagship brand of Ceylon Biscuits Ltd., (CBL) has come forward once again to proudly sponsor the ‘Munchee National Volleyball Championship 2019’ for the 12th consecutive year.

The official sponsorship handing over ceremony took place recently in the presence of senior management from Ceylon Biscuits and representatives of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVF), organizers of the Championship.

Recognized as Sri Lanka’s national sport, Munchee’s main aim in continuously sponsoring volleyball is to rekindle its spirit and thus supporting it to become an integral part of the culture of our nation. They also are keen on helping to form a strong platform for talented players to showcase their skills.

Hon. Ranjith Siyabalapitiya MP, President of Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation said, “We express our sincere thanks to Munchee for once again supporting us. They have been our strength over the past 12 years and have helped build the sport to a firm national level footing and also has been vital in promoting talented players’ to achieve their dreams. As a corporate they have shouldered this responsibility single- handedly and with their assistance we hope to ensure the growth of the sport in the future too.”

Over 2000 teams representing island wide districts with 24,200 men and women volleyball players and 220 Super League Players are expected to participate in this important tournament.

Commenting on sponsoring the Tournament, Nalin Karunaratne Chief Executive Officer, Ceylon Biscuits Ltd said, “Munchee’s partnership with the National Volleyball Championship now spans 12 successful years. As the national sport of our country, we take pride in creating a strong platform for players to showcase their strengths and the opportunity to be selected to play at national level. We are committed to the sport and believe volleyball fans too are looking forward to this annual tournament.”

This year’s Munchee National Volleyball Championship will be held for both men and women categories under two phases i.e. the Super League and Novices tournaments.

In the Super League tournament, 16 teams representing eight women and men teams each, inclusive of top national level players will vie for this tournament title.

For the Novices tournament, players representing the 25 districts islandwide will compete against each district. Though these players are not in the top league, through the Munchee National Volleyball Championship, they and their clubs are able to play in a tournament that is recognized at national levels.

Throughout the years, by supporting this important volleyball tournament, Munchee has provided novice players a strong platform to demonstrate their sporting abilities and thus gain a place in the national team.

Applications for the Munchee National Volleyball Championship Novices tournament will be accepted from 15 September 2019 onwards and for the Super League tournament from 15 December 2019. The district level matches are scheduled to commence after 15 September 2019.
