Late UN Resident Co-ordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Sri Lanka Ms. Una McCauley meets the Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen previously on 17 August at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Colombo

“It was with a deep sense of regret that I learnt of the untimely passing of Ms.Una McCauley, UN Resident Co-ordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Sri Lanka.

“I found the late Ms.McCauley to commit tirelessly to support the underprivileged, and made a special effort to understand the causes for these issues.

“As UN Resident Co-ordinator, on several occasions she discussed with me the need to resettle protracted IDPs and other issues related to the Muslim IDPs and women’s rights.

“The late Ms.Mc.Cauley also supported the Ministry of Industry and Commerce by taking the time to attend events organized, related to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 9 on industries, innovation and infrastructure.

“Even very recently -on January 8th -she was the Chief Guest for a workshop organized by the Consumer Affairs Authority which falls under the aegis of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce with UNIDO where she strongly advocated for the need to ensure stringent regulation of consumer rights.

“I admire her sincerity, dedication and commitment to the people of Sri Lanka, and join my staff members to extend our profound sympathies to the family of the late Ms. McCauley and the UN.”
