Mobitel, Sri Lanka’s premier connectivity provider demonstrated the latest 5G connectivity at One Galle Face Mall recently. This event, a milestone in the history of broadband in the region, was graced by Oshada Senanayake, Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL), Rohan Fernando, Chairman of SLT and Mobitel and Board of Directors from both Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) and Mobitel. Mobitel’s brand ambassador, Angelo Mathews was a special guest to witness this technology exposition.
With a vision to lead Sri Lanka towards an info-com and knowledge-rich society, Mobitel continues to bring in the most advanced 5G technology, thereby enabling every Sri Lankan to come and experience the true power of 5G and feel what the future will be like with Mobitel 5G.
This is the second phase of 5G trials and public demonstrations, of which Mobitel initially carried out in 2019 throughout the country, taking the technology to a wider cross section of the community including schoolchildren, university students, technology enthusiasts and policy makers. Mobitel was internationally recognized by international industry forums for its efforts to popularize 5G technology in the region.
As the National Mobile Service Provider, Mobitel invested over USD 100 million for broadband expansion in 2019 and has earmarked a significant investment for 2020 to continuously expand coverage for the entire island. Mobitel’s 5G network is backed by its parent company SLT’s super-fast Fiber connectivity. This will in turn enhance preparedness for the commercial deployment of 5G in time to come.
