Millennium Toastmasters Celebrates 25th Installation in Grand Style

Colombo, Tuesday 20th August 2024: The Millennium Toastmasters Club ceremoniously ushered in its 25th installation in grand style at Cinnamon Lakeside on the 27th of July 2024. The event took place in the presence of distinguished invitees including corporate players across different sectors and also officials and members of Toastmasters International District 82. Champion speaker Tharindu Ameresekere was formally installed as the new President of the club, along with the newly elected Executive Committee. The committee members include Banukrishanthini Balakrishnan (Vice President – Education), Kavithi Hewage (Vice President – Membership), Promodhya Abeysekara (Treasurer), Thisumi Sahansa (Vice President – Public Relations), Mohomed Shalim (Secretary), Janindu Sandanayake (Sergeant-at-arms), and Immediate Past President Kauminie Samarakoon.

 


 

As the second-oldest community club in the country, The Millennium Toastmasters Club boasts a legacy of numerous successes in various aspects of Toastmasters over the decades. The ceremony saw the presence of many experienced members, including charter member DTM Ajitha Goonewardene and former District Director DTM Ajantha Jayawardena. Also in attendance were former Toastmasters International President DTM Balraj Arunasalam, District 82 Director – 2024/25 Ganga Fernando, and other notable figures. Ramesh Schaffter, Managing Director and CEO of JXG Group, served as the Chief Guest.

In his address, the newly elected President Tharindu Ameresekere, a senior lecturer at PIM, emphasized the importance of the club and the Toastmasters movement in empowering individuals to reach new heights in their careers.

The club also honoured several distinguished leaders, including charter member DTM Ajitha Goonewardene, DTM Ajantha Jayawardena, and Dr. Clive James, paying tribute to its illustrious history while looking forward to the future.

The Millennium Toastmasters Club meets every 1st and 3rd Tuesday at 6 PM at the Royal College Union Skill Centre.
