Melwa, Sri Lanka’s leading steel manufacturer, recently sponsored numerous Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations across the island. These events, held in various regions, showcased the country’s rich cultural heritage by emphasising traditional customs and rituals. The company sponsored New Year celebrations in multiple locations, including Akuressa, Galle, Middeniya, Badulla, Moneragala, Ampara, Polonnaruwa, Thambuttegama, Anuradhapura, Puttalam, Rajanganaya, Kurunegala, Gampaha, Weeraketiya, Deniyaya, Haputale, Dampana, Kotmale, Siripura, Kekirawa, Kobeyigane, Kegalle, Thawalama, and Minuwangoda.

 



 

Melwa, which consistently prioritises local identity, aimed to promote harmony and unity among both rural and urban populations by organising these New Year celebrations. Featuring various folk games rooted in Sinhala and Tamil cultures, the events sought to introduce and preserve this rich cultural heritage for future generations.
