Melwa, Sri Lanka’s leading steel manufacturer, has reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of its dedicated workforce by distributing stationery and school supplies to the children of their employees for the new year (2025). This annual initiative ensures that young learners have the tools they need to start the school year confidently and symbolises Melwa’s dedication to its employees and their families.
As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, Melwa carries out various initiatives to support not only its employees but also communities across Sri Lanka. One of the company’s most impactful programmes is its scholarship initiative for university students from low-income families. For the past decade, Melwa has been providing financial assistance to over 3,000 students to help them successfully complete their higher education. Currently, 300 students are benefitting from this programme, which offers financial support for the entire duration of their university education. Melwa also extends support for other education-related needs of the scholarship recipients, ensuring that financial difficulties do not hinder their academic aspirations. In addition to supporting education, Melwa engages in other CSR projects such as environmental conservation, urban beautification, and skill development for construction workers, helping them acquire recognised professional qualifications. These initiatives reaffirm Melwa’s dedication to creating a positive impact on the communities it serves while supporting the aspirations of individuals and families across the nation.
