24th January 2025: AIA Insurance recently renewed its partnership with the Sri Lanka Cancer Society for the sixth consecutive year, continuing its dedication to supporting cancer awareness, treatment and prevention across the country. With this partnership, AIA has pledged to contribute Rs. 100 on behalf of every new policy sold since 2019, marking a long-standing commitment to helping Sri Lankans live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives.
The renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) of this ongoing partnership was signed by AIA Insurance, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Chathuri Munaweera and Cancer Society Chairperson, Anoja Karunaratne, further solidifying AIA’s commitment to providing life-changing support to those affected by cancer.
Throughout the years, AIA’s contributions have been instrumental in supporting the Cancer Society’s work, with funding primarily directed towards care facilities such as the ‘Bandaranaike Memorial Homes,’ which offer essential services to underprivileged cancer patients. Additionally, a significant portion of the funds has been dedicated to expanding cancer awareness and educational initiatives, including recent campaigns led by AIA that focused specifically on breast cancer prevention and early detection.
In 2024, AIA launched several impactful campaigns for breast cancer awareness, bringing attention to the importance of regular screenings and self-examinations. These campaigns not only reached thousands of Sri Lankans but also actively involved AIA employees and Wealth Planners, empowering them to champion the cause within their communities. These initiatives gained widespread support, creating an open dialogue around breast cancer, emphasising early detection and providing support resources for those affected.
Sasith Bambaradeniya, Chief Marketing Officer at AIA Insurance Lanka, commented on the importance of these campaigns, “AIA’s brand purpose is deeply tied to meaningful community engagement. By working closely with the Cancer Society, we’re able to contribute to important initiatives that raise awareness and bring comfort to those who are diagnosed with cancer. We are grateful to our employees and Wealth Planners who drive these efforts and who are passionate about making a real difference in the broader Sri Lankan community.”
Sri Lanka Cancer Society Chairperson, Anoja Karunaratne expressed gratitude for AIA’s continuous support, which has been invaluable in sustaining patient care and expanding cancer prevention programs. “AIA’s ongoing contribution is an immense strength to us. Over the years, AIA’s support has enabled us to run our care homes, giving the patients proper care and comfort when they need it the most. Further, for our awareness initiatives, particularly in breast cancer, has helped us reach more people and provide essential education on early detection and treatment.”
As cancer remains a leading health challenge in Sri Lanka, AIA Insurance and the Sri Lanka Cancer Society stand united in their mission to combat this life-altering disease. This renewed partnership will continue to provide much-needed resources and compassion for those facing cancer, inspiring hope and resilience in communities across the country.
