LANDER together with Avonsmart Engineering signs a commercial agreement with Sri Lanka Railways to introduce locomotive simulators to Sri Lanka

LANDER, headquartered in Spain, designs, manufactures, installs and maintains railway and automotive driving simulators in 5 continents for over 2 decades. With a workforce of more than 110 employees, LANDER is one of the leading companies in developing the most advanced driving simulators and it develops new solutions that solves the training needs of its clients.

The project titled ‘Supply, installation, commissioning and handing over of a train simulator for Sri Lanka Railways’ is funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The simulator unit that is customized according to the distinctive requirements of the Sri Lanka railway network by Lander Simulation and Training Solutions, Spain will be mobilized by the company’s local partner, Avonsmart Engineering (Private) Limited.

The commercial Agreement was signed by the Secretary to the Ministry of Transport and Highways, Mr. R.W. Pemasiri, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lander Simulation and Training Solutions, Mr. Jose Montero , in the presence of CEO of Avonsmart Engineering, Mr. Sudesh Gamage, Project Director of Colombo Suburban Railways Project (CSRP), Mr. Upali Mallikarachchi, Chief Accountant of the Transport Ministry, Ms. E. Subramanium, Area Manager of Lander Simulation and Training Solutions, Mr. Alvaro Oreja, CSRP officials, Transport Ministry officials, Avonsmart staff and other well-wishers on the 20th of October 2022 at Maga Neguma Maha Madura, Battaramulla.

Sharing his thoughts on the occasion, CEO of Avonsmart Engineering, Mr. Suresh Gamage stated, “At a time when professional development options for locomotive drivers are limited to on-the-job training, we are pleased to introduce state of the art technology through our principal partner Lander Simulation and Training Solutions. Further, we hope that this technology will enhance the efficiency of training of the new entrants to the field as well as help to further develop the skills of the existing group of employees at Sri Lanka Railway in the long term.”

Speaking at the commercial agreement signing ceremony, Area Manager of Lander Simulation and Training Solutions, Mr. Alvaro Oreja stated, “We are pleased to work with Sri Lanka Railways and Avonsmart Engineering, one of the best engineering companies in Sri Lanka, to produce this simulator that provides real-time training to locomotive drivers with utmost safety standards made possible by state-of-the-art technology. We believe our experience and expertise in designing simulators and training locomotive drives across the globe will undoubtedly help elevate the overall efficiency and safety standards of the Sri Lanka Railways”
