Kandy Esala Perahera – 29 July – 8 August Kandy

The Kandy Esala Perahera is the most colourfull and the biggest annual festival of the temple of tooth relic; Also known as Sri Dhaladha Maligawa, where it also shows the harmonious blending of Buddhism and Hinduism. For a Long period of time this traditional processions held in honour  of the Sacred tooth relic of the Lord Buddha and four Hindu Gods, namely Natha, Vishnu, Skandha and Paththini. It is undoubtedly one of the foremost World Heritage Events named by UNESCO.

Attracting thousands of Pilgrims and Tourists to the scenic hill city of Kandy every year, not only to pay homage to the scared tooth relic and for Hindu Gods but also to see the Buddhist Arts, Culture the rituals of Thevava and the Kandyan Dancing so unique to Kandy and the Esala Perahera.

This gorgeous cultural pageant has history, religion and a nation’s culture mingled in it. This traditional rehearsal of Kandy’s past glory carries a spiritual message too.

Kandy Esala Perahera 2017 official starts on 24^th of July at 06.58 am with the planting of Kapa will be hold at the four Devales, facing North and the Perahera will be conducted within the Devale premises until 28^th of July 2017. From 29^th July to 8^th August 2017 the Perahera will be conducted along the streets of Kandy as usual.
