According to statistics from the Ministry of Health, breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among females both globally and locally. The National Cancer Registry of Sri Lanka for 2021 indicates that breast cancer accounts for 27% of all female cancers, with a total of 5,485 cases reported. Additionally, 124 new cases of breast cancer were identified among males. The Ministry of Health research presents that, the incidence of breast cancer has been steadily increasing over the years.

October is globally recognised as ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month’ and JXG makes every effort each year to bring this topic to the forefront of its employees and extend it to the wider community.

Wasanthi Stephen, Group Chief Human Resources Officer at JXG noted, “We are proud to educate JXG employees about breast cancer awareness and support, reinforcing our commitment to the well-being of our workforce and the broader community. By providing valuable resources and information, we aim to empower our employees to recognize the importance of prevention and early detection. Our initiatives not only focus on individual health but also contribute to national awareness efforts, fostering a culture of support and understanding around breast cancer. Together, we strive to create an environment where knowledge and compassion flourish, ensuring that our commitment to health extends beyond the workplace to benefit the nation as a whole.”

“At JXG, we aim to remove the stigma surrounding cancer and encourage open conversations where individuals can share their experiences and hope, supporting one another in overcoming this challenging illness. We are committed to raising awareness about breast cancer, particularly its prevention and early detection, which is crucial given its high incidence among women in Sri Lanka. As a responsible corporate entity with over three decades of experience in the financial sector, we are committed to fostering high levels of employee engagement at all levels while actively working to make a positive impact in the communities we serve”, Stephen concluded.

In alignment with JXG’s slogan, “Stronger Together, Stronger Than Ever”, this initiative was extended to all business units within the Group, including Janashakthi Insurance, First Capital Holdings, and Orient Finance PLC. This collaborative effort aims to enhance awareness and knowledge among all employees, fostering a unified culture of growth and empowerment across our organization.
