On February 3rd 2025, Ms. IKUINA Akiko, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Government of Japan, witnessed the signing ceremony where H.E. Mr. SAIDA Shinichi, Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh, and Mr. Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky, Secretary, Economic Relations Division, Ministry of Finance signed the Exchange of Notes on the Japanese Grant aid titled “Project for the Improvement of Equipment for Air Pollution Monitoring” (up to JPY 835 million, about USD 5 million). Mr. Md. Khayrul Hasan, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, also witnessed the ceremony.
Based on this Exchange of Notes between the two counties, Mr. ICHIGUCHI Tomohide, Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh Office, and Mr. Md. Shahriar Kader Siddiky signed a relevant Grant Agreement.
In this project, equipment for air pollution monitoring is to be set up to enhance the capacity to measure and analyze air pollutants derived mainly from vehicle emissions in the capital city Dhaka and Chattogram, thereby contributing to enhancing air pollution control capacity.
